yugioh is a show about a 3000 or 5000 year old pharaoh with amnesia whose goal is, eventually, to figure out who he is, with the last central piece of information being his name, which was somehow completely lost to time, and which he has little particular attachment to
in other words, it is a card game-centric soap opera about the protagonist resurfacing his own literal deadname and passing on into the afterlife almost immediately afterwards
i think what’s really funny about eridan is that we have eridan go on this whole tangent about how gender norms come into play and it’s made pretty clear that eridan had thought a lot about this and how to navigate the minefield of one’s gender
then two minutes later she’s like “so sollux, tell me about your genitals”
when i wrote the eridan route one of my foremost thoughts was “fuck it. i’m going to be completely unsubtle about how trans this is” and just dumped a full on gender monologue and dresses everywhere, with the goal being to make the gender stuff impossible to ignore
granted i don’t think it’s the BEST exploration of gender out of the routes, due to its somewhat hamfisted punchy nature, but it was pretty satisfying to really make a bunch of chuds mad about it
i made eridan's route for pesterquest. also a bit of something called yugiohstuck. if i post it's probably either yugiohposting or ffxiv horseshit
