thinking about "lenin" by langston hughes

it's a great poem -- evocative, well-structured, etc -- but i don't understand what "the sun sets like a scar" means

funnily enough when we were studying hughes in english class they never showed us that one!

they DID teach us about critical lenses by making us analyze the poem "jack and jill" through a marxist lens or a feminist lens. we had to come up with takes that were giant stretches even to us ("jack breaking his 'crown' is a metaphor for communist revolution," "jill tumbling 'after' jack represents chauvinism"). everyone thought it was stupid. in retrospect i can only assume this was deliberate
