work orphaning on ao3 is such a good feature. it's probably as good a solution as you can get to allowing creators to move on from their old shames while still keeping that work archived for people who like it (and the fact that it's an alternative to deletion means you can avoid this last part if it's undesirable)

i just orphaned my first oneshot. i thought it was kind of half-assed even at the time, it might provide misleading meta-"context" for the themes in my current story, i don't have much nostalgia for it, and its gimmick was that it was formatted like a post on reddit (which is a site i very much now want to distance myself from). ngl the only thing that kept me from pulling the trigger sooner was the fact that it proved unexpectedly popular, but clout is fake yo

i wish people used the feature more. theres been a couple of fics i really enjoyed only to go back to them and find them deleted...
