westerners will talk about how you need massive increases in battery production and associated extractive industries to electrify transportation as if electric rail and trolleybusses havent existed for over a century

just watched a fucking lib youtuber basically admit that theres no way the math works out on lithium and cobalt production for an ev switchover even just in the few european jurisdictions planning to mandate it, much less entire world. its just not fucking gonna happen.

also just on level of basic physics, it will always be less efficient to move both the vehicle and its power source/storage than to move just the vehicle and getting power from offboard (overhead wire)

@Fuefos_ anglos will get into some shitty undrivable suv every morning and sit in traffic for two hours breathin in gas fumes cause thats the only way to get anywhere from their zero local infrastructure suburban tract housing and call that independance

@Fuefos_ a society that brings about need for "designated drivers" is not a society worth preserving

@annotatedAmbiguity the designated drivers should have a payroll and a union

@annotatedAmbiguity imagine a 1000% increase in exploitation, i mean "extraction" of, well, uh, poison,,,

@annotatedAmbiguity got a link because I've seen plenty of data indicating otherwise, but will have to dig up more sources again
@annotatedAmbiguity also cobalt free LiOn batteries are happening right now and there is lithium everywhere... we could pull it right out of the ocean. Also we only need grams of it per cell.

> For realistic strategic planning purposes automobile manufacturers should model the material requirement at 2 kg to 3 kg of technical grade Lithium Carbonate per nominal kWh of PHEV battery capacity.

2-3kg of it per car. That's pretty nominal.

@annotatedAmbiguity

Yeah, but you can't play video games while you fly into a highway barrier at 180 kph in a streetcar, and that's not Freedom™️ .

@annotatedAmbiguity That's because the loudest voices aren't talking about electrifying transportation, they're talking about preserving individualist mobility against the end of the petroleum infrastructure.
