Q: "How can you be a sharkgirl but not a girl?"
A: "Sharkgirl" doesn't refer to a species in a scientific way, but rather the design choices made in my development. My appearance was inspired by my cumulative experience seeing sexy anthro shark girls, and applying typical features of that design, as opposed to being singularly based on any particular species of shark. (1/2)

... So calling me a sharkgirl is much easier than saying I'm a "feminine-looking anthro shark of indeterminate species," and saying that itself is my species makes it easy to clarify that the second half of the word "sharkgirl" isn't my gender. (2/2)

Q: "Why do you use pi/pem pronouns?"

A: I would say that the purpose pronouns serve, more or less, is making it take less work to refer to someone or something repeatedly. The more common pronouns can increase ambiguity when multiple people in a scenario use them - imagine if there was only one set of pronouns for everyone and everything! In contrast, the unusual nature of my pronouns means it's exceedingly rare for it to be ambiguous who someone's referring to when they say pi or pem. (1/2)

... Furthermore, pronouns in English as commonly spoken in my society carry information about the subject's gender. My dispreference for they/them stems from what I perceive to be its increasing usage by binary-gendered people and the consequent loss in the power of they/them to signify nonbinariness. Using pi/pem makes my gender impossible to ignore. (2/2)

Q: "Can I use pi/pem pronouns?"
A: Of course you can, since I can't stop you, but I coined them to identify myself specifically, and I encourage you to customize your own pronouns if you vibe with my reasons for using pi/pem.
