anyone want to take a hack at a material explanation for why right wingers, first with hydroxycloriquine and then ivermectin, seem obsessed with the shifting idea that there’s some secret already existing covid magic bullet that’s being suppressed by big science
@kate hmm well if we take right wing ideology as more-or-less a function of the interests of conservative sectors of the ruling class, then perhaps its in their interest to posit a magic bullet bc that would preclude the need for a complex, coordinated, expensive (read: "socialist") response. the same people i know who believe stuff like this also believe that weed cures cancer. and i mean, why would anyone trust biotech after what they did with opioids?
