It’s no coincidence that twitter won’t even let you RT Chinese news sources now. Being able to see what fucking cruel useless failures our leaders are compared to what’s possible is very dangerous

@kate I’m Chinese though I no longer live in China, you seem like a good and reasonable person and I don’t want to argue with you, but China’s zero Covid policy is dangerous and had caused human rights disasters, and one should never trust the death tolls and other stats from China state media, they are all fake.
My source: Chinese social media like Weibo and Chinese users on Mastodon, videos posted by Chinese people (censored by Chinese gov minutes after). China is in no way close to communist.

@colorfusion @kate in the united states so far there have been almost 90 million coronavirus cases, and over 1 million deaths. in china, 5 million cases and 23 000 deaths — these numbers according to the world health organisation. what sorts of human rights do you suppose are being enjoyed by those 992 000 (remembering the us's population is about a third of china's) extra dead? and does the state forcing you to get a deadly disease not qualify as a human rights violation to you?
@colorfusion @kate at least 30% of the people in the united states's prison system — that works out to about 700 000, which is almost half the total number of people incarcerated in china — have gotten covid as a result of overcrowding, generally unsanitary conditions, and officials refusing to provide or embezzling the funds meant for covid relief. do you think this was in accord with their human rights?
@esvrld Stop listing data and compare China to the US as if there are only two countries in the ENTIRE WORLD, the US did a horrible job with the most Covid death rates in a developed country, everyone knows that. You want examples of countries with dense populations that did better than US and China, there are plenty, etc. Japan, Korea, Taiwan. Stop pretending you know anything about China, I won't educate you because I have better things to do and it's not my responsibility.

@kate But how long can they keep it up? And what's their plan once they can't? I agree that China's aggressive lockdown policy has some merit... But I don't think it's really worthwhile unless paired with an aggressive vaccination policy, and they haven't pulled that off yet. :/
