happy Public Domain Day! the first Winnie-the-Pooh book just entered the public domain in the US
but not Tigger—Tigger wasn't in a book until 1928, so you can't use him in your gritty Hundred Acre Wood noir story until 2024
@agafnd considering that E.H. Shepard's original illustrations DID feature Pooh in a shirt, not necessarily!
you wouldn't be able to redesign him to exactly match the Disney Pooh, and of course the Sherman Brothers songs are still locked up. and if you were to voice him, you probably couldn't imitate Sterling Holloway or Jim Cummings too closely.
@agafnd a gruff voice would definitely sound more bear-like—but you could also make the argument that a softer voice makes more sense considering he's a STUFFED bear
(and that's disregarding the fact that, for as fuck-Disney as I am... I *still* read his words in Holloway's voice, because their brainworms are insidious like that)
@nowionlywantatriumph yeah Sterling Holloway's voice is iconic
@nowionlywantatriumph I seem to recall Milne describing his voice as "gruff", which is appropriate for a bear, but pretty dissimilar to Holloway
