it's still fun to watch the pharaoh during his jigsaw phase but it all felt so delightfully targeted in the manga. idk it's all simple stuff at the end of the day
the villain of chapter 1 is a guy named Ushio, who's essentially a jackass disciplinary committee guy. he beats up joey and tristan for bullying yugi earlier and demands 20k yen from yugi as protection money
in the manga, yami yugi does a shadow game that reflects that ushio is just a greedy bastard and that it'd be his downfall. when ushio cheats and tries to stab yugi instead, that's his "breaking the rules of the shadow game"
in the anime yugi just rigs a nonsense card game
i think the biggest problem is that they felt the need to stretch out the singular opening chapter into a full episode, so you end up having a lot of padding and moments that don't really...add much? and often detract from the point/themes of the short and simple chapters
watched the first episode of yugioh season 0. it's gained a reputation of essentially being an adaptation of the comparatively DARK and EDGY pre-duel monsters section of the manga over the years, due to the general difference in tone between it and the anime most are used to
having actually read the manga itself, Season 0 is actually a severely diminished version of those events, closer to the tone though it is

i made eridan's route for pesterquest. also a bit of something called yugiohstuck. if i post it's probably either yugiohposting or ffxiv horseshit
