if there is anything to be construed as "good" about today, it's this: our entire lives, republicans have been pushing to overturn roe. even within liberal circles, "overturning roe" is the long-discussed line in the sand between american democracy and fascism. now, a lot of those libs will still say actually it's fine, because liberalism is the PR branch of fascism. but the line has been crossed, and everyone knows it. there's no pretending now, and if anyone tries, you KNOW not to trust them.

i don't think you raise several generations of people on the assumption of a liberal democracy that cares about human rights, dedicate that democracy to violating human rights everywhere on earth, and then expect that we're all just gonna be cool with it forever.
like genuinely a ray of still-in-question hope for me is the possibility that, in the absence of any interface with material reality within the lib-dem apparatus, most people are sick of this shit and want something better

if socialists can use this moment to educate and activate the working class (which genuinely seems already underway), and if we can be really goddamn proactive in making sure the cishet middle class whites who've only recently been betrayed by the liberal order don't give up the fight as soon as their own personal needs are met...
if we can do that and so much more, if we can put in that work, i believe that a better world is within our grasp.

the stranglehold that invisible liberalism has had on american culture has loosened and crumbled in real time. the media may not reflect it, but you have to keep in mind that every newspaper, corporation, and politician is or is owned by one of a couple dozen guys who all weekend at the same country club. they've locked arms against material reality in the hopes that lying to people will make the problem go away.
but the hypocrisy matters. the lie matters. and we all know it.
