Hi its my birthday and I got treated to an EXTREMELY rare vagrant bird in my area, in fact this is the first time it has EVER been recorded within my city’s limits!

Meet the Gray Kingbird!

Native to the Caribbean, it breeds on the coast of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. So seeing it here in NYC is an extremely rare and amazing treat!

This wasn’t the only new lifer I got today, I also finally got to see a Common Loon, and a Horned Grebe! Both are in their non breeding molts. The Horned Grebe was diving kinda far out but it got close enough for that one photo :D

And I finally got a good close up photo of some Brants! These were the first type of birds I was able to identify on my own when I started birding two years ago so they hold a special place in my heart :)
