ahhhhh. dana's name being, like another trans godfeels character with a four letter name, a feminised flip version of her birthname. i also wonder if the fact that dana is pronounced like it is is deliberately done to distance itself from the pronunciation of dane? or if that's one of those things that seems like it'd be a thematic connection but is just a coincidence because not every choice has to have narrative gravitas lol. either way i'm so hyped for more upsilon stuff
godfeels upd8
ooh this is baby dana! she seemed to be the likeliest candidate but i didn't want to 100% commit to saying that

the heroism becomes performance. silverbark could have dispatched these guys with a few sharpshots and have it be done with in a matter of seconds. instead she pulls out all the flashy witch of space stops. it somehow speaks to and also makes a parody of jade harley in canon homestuck's big flash moments. she's wearing the face of cascade/collide jade, but this is harbinger silverbark. she's putting on a show. is it only for this wounded boy or is there another implied audience too?
godfeels upd8
kind of troubling that in the pivotal moment it is through the guise of silverbark that she chooses to undertake this heroism. this action reconfigured not as a purehearted rebellion against narrative dooming but as a function of the ewl's mission statement. the boy's eyes are full of stars. this is how the witches get you.
godfeels upd8
the mysterious woman was silverbark all along we are all completely blown away by this stunning revelation
godfeels upd8
silverbark takes in one last Breath and then chooses to save this upsilon boy from preordained doom. thinking about how even in this distant narrative pocket there's so much entanglement both characterways and themeways between jade and june. it's going to rock so hard when all this stuff eventually culminates way later down the line
godfeels upd8
"it's clear that death is looking for him" becomes a lot more interesting when throughout this chapter death has been associated with narrative importance and the gravitational pull of the ewl. death seeks the boy / the narrative seeks the boy
godfeels upd8
worst of all, the ewl takes doomed children and reshapes them away from their known way of life forever and in turn transforms them into a kind of witch and thus they become feared and reviled by the common population. this is an allegory for classical witches and also transgenderism
godfeels upd8
the ewl as bringers of death and disaster. both in the sense of the ewl as a paramilitary outfit that has no doubt done some ethical uh-ohs but maybe also in the sense that the ewl stands in some way in opposition to a pre establised ancient extracosmic order of isolation and Doom. their existence is radical and brings about the death of your known way of being. or something idk
godfeels upd8
ohhh my god. throwing the silly dumb spookyghost right at the peak of bleak tension is generating the exact emotion you can only find in homestuck and nowhere else
godfeels upd8
a crazed people making ineffective use of their recently apocalypsed planet and the narratively aware individual regarding them as a threat and foe. this is kind of the midnight crew/felt thing played out instead among people who should never have assumed these roles
godfeels upd8
death cultists deliberately(?) choosing to flee from the hollowed shell of civilization and society. this, too, is ghost radiation at play.
