@kate you'd think so, but the union doesn't care about properly paying draftees! they're not eligible to be in the union yet so they don't have any stake in properly representing them
it's the same reason minor leaguers have constantly gotten shafted in CBA negotiations—the MLBPA is in the business of representing current major league baseball players, and they see the rights of minor leaguers and incoming draftees and international signees as little more than negotiating chips
which sucks!
@kate either minor leaguers need to unionize or the MLBPA needs to let minor leaguers in
@kate maybe not "little more than negotiating chips" cause of course they CARE, but what I'm saying is that if push comes to shove, and the MLBPA HAS to choose between eliminating/raising draft slot values and shortening the window to free agency by two years, they'd take the latter without a second thought
which makes sense for them, cause that's better for their members, but it sucks, cause it's worse for baseball as a whole
