@MollyNoise Doesn't BMW let you control the heating of your seat by paying a subscription?

Seriously, this stage of Capitalism sucks

@Ozmopolitan yes, this reminds of some vague memory i have of early computing where features built into machines (iirc high end servers for companies) were unlocked in the field by technicians.. but even then i think it wasn't a recurring fee

@MollyNoise Just wild when they now block something that could even affect the security. Can't imagine that it's safe to make acceleration slower than expected by other drivers

@Ozmopolitan car-features-as-a-service is such a fucked idea, if this stands i truly wonder what is next

that its (still?) legal for coffee pod machines to reject "unofficial" pods is deeply fucked (obv im against them in general due to the waste)

@MollyNoise I can understand media subscriptions. They make sense but hardware that blocks a feature you have already purchased it's awful.

I mean I opened my NES and destroyed by accident a pin of the lockout chip after hitting it with a screwdriver a couple of times and closing the NES again.

I hope the owner of hardware in that something prevents any kind of use similar accidents.

@Ozmopolitan yeah, god, it would be awful if some open source people figured out how to bypass all these built-in restrictions and people could just use their cars 😨

wrt media subscriptions, while they in some cases might be good, w platforms like Spotify, its a way of getting artists to basically build a platform which takes most of the money 🙃

I'd rather if people pirated my entire discog and some sent me 5eur on kofi , would pay better

@MollyNoise I recognise the difference of a platform that presents own content (Newspapers, WWE Network...)

Or some platform that's sounds good by platforming small artists while exploiting them at the end. My understanding is that the monies artists can expect from Spotify and similar are a hoke.

But yeah... I download music and buy tapes and vinyls of the artists I like and wouldn't use Spotify and Co

@MollyNoise Yeah, it must be a real struggle for small artists.

That said... I really hope that these extremely creative people come up with more and more obscure platforms and devices to store their music on... I want to get an excuse to buy an 8-Track 😉
