@MollyNoise i started working on an alt-hist where Pearse and the Nationalists called off the Rising after MacNeill's countermand, but were then rounded up in the summer.
In my "book" (fragmentary pages) Connolly devotes the next year to building support networks in his natural milieu -- the dockworkers in France and Britain -- before launching a standalone Rising in Easter 1917.

i do wonder, had the 1916 rising gone ahead with only nationalist forces, had the organised labour movement and ICA struck later on their own after the October revolution, what then?
