@abraxas I think the most graphics we ever needed, as a society, were reached with the dreamcast (and smoothed out a bit with the gamecube)
we should be investing less in hyperrealism and more in the very basic video filters you can put over your game to make it look like it's outputting on a basic crt
@abraxas (and I'm not talking about faking curvature or scanlines, all you really need is to adjust how colors relate to each other and add a slight amount of chromatic abberation to blur textures just the right amount. I recently replayed SMS this way and I've been trying to figure out how to replicate the reshade settings I used)
I know this is the arch millennial gaming take but I really think Mario 64 Ocarina of Time & co had more purely evocative and perfect environments than any "3d game" since
