There’s a lot I could & will say abt communism in Disco Elysium but for now all I’ll say is the first thing that profoundly specifically stood out as a marker of “yes we know what we’re talking about here” is when they describe it as an ideology of total failure. I’ve been getting myself to read Pynchon for so long that I’ve trained myself to associate “acclaimed interesting books I want to read” with “overwhelmingly dense prose over 800 pages that’ll take me 3-6 months to wade through” and I guess that’s good because reading Blood Meridian a few months ago & White Noise now is so much easier. Literary equivalent to taking training weights off.
