PLEASE never "not all cops" Secily or think we're "not all cop"ing her, she is literally the cop-iest of all cops who's repeatedly in the story said/thought/did something fucked up or harmful even before Gerbat's route (Threatened Sirage, almost killed and thought about killing Bytcon, the prose in Husske's route about her being prepared to pull her sword at any time, violated both Oricka and Occeus' privacy, etc.)

SBB and Secily herself is a whole deconstruction of the "cop character". A character under the police force who's presented as a "cool cop" (which IS copaganda) but then progressively taking down that belief ruthlessly through their actions. It's to tell people that even if Secily does SOMETIMES show good and has a sad past, you can't glorify those who work and benefit off of a force built on systemic violence and bigotry

I think since Frankenstein was one of the biggest works to pioneer the "mad scientist" trope, reading it really helps in understanding Occeus as a character who both fits and subverts said trope

Frankenstein was first published way before utilizing of electricity as an energy source was done and how at the time, it was unprecedented. Occeus' own research and results in bringing the dead back itself is seen as unprecedented and suspicious
Occeus, unlike Victor actually names Rogi because he is genuinely the most proud of him, whereas Victor not only calls his creation "the creature" because he didn't give a name, he regards him with sheer abhorrence and disgust and terror

Reading Frankenstein during highschool senior year really helped my understanding of Occeus' character and the trope he represents (especially since I read both that and VE around the same time) and I feel crazy thinking about the parallels and differences
