holy SHIT there's a plugin for Godot 4 that replaces the janky ass Terrain system with something that actually works. thank fucking god

it's called Better Terrain and you can just get it from the asset store. had to reference the video tutorial to understand how to get started with the UI but after that it Just Works

Is the standard 2d tilemapping particularly bad in godot?

@sara the new 4.0 TileMap system overall is a BIG improvement, but the new Terrain system that lets you automate a lot of intricate tile placement is really clunky and barely works tbh. fedi won't let me upload the gif but i posted a comparison on twitter twitter.com/estroBiologist/sta

@estroBiologist Ah gotcha, I usually use LDTk for 2d tilemaps, which is really really good at auto-tiling.

Though i don't have a lot of experience with the godot integration yet
