something interesting going on here with dana and lenore vis a vis trust and paranoia. lenore paranoid enough to abscond from the ewl putting her trust in old comrades. dana burned by a poisoned faith in silverbark hesitant and mistrusting. really enjoying the ways these two are playing off each other

again an insistence on dana's part that this kind of quirk/oddity has to Mean Something. it's not just that the voidshell didn't pop. there has to be some kind of narrativised conspiracy behind it because despite her cynicism i think dana's still very much buying into the narrative fantasy of silverbark and the ewl. evil and cruelty are mundane and i don't think that's a revelation that'll sit well with her.

god this is nailing the oddly liberatory nature of realizing that when your old life implodes that also includes the arbitrary confines and limitations of said life. feeling very Normal about the vibes of these lines. also feeling Normal about the way godfeels dave is always precision-engineered in some ways to hit me in the core emotionally right at the point in my life where i'd feel it the most.
godfeels upd8
dave sloppily and clumsily slipping back into the sburb 2009 john + dave dynamic and failing to do anything but put his foot in his mouth because that bro-style mode of coping is so deeply dead and buried. gonna be so silly and painful when dave has to genuinely reckon with the Permanent Change Of State that has occurred

third person pov as indication of dissociation rules as a narrative technique actually

over/under in this not being foreboding at all but actually a catharsis anticlimax. mary and lenore enter the bar and dave and dare are just fucking bawling into each other's arms like a pair of weenies drunk out of their minds but otherwise completely unharmed and not at risk. either that or unfathomable horrors i guess.

i feel like depending on if her paranoia here is justified or not what comes next will bring into focus a lot about dana's character since a lot of the heavy feelings in this chapter are confined to dana's narrative pov rather than empirically existing in the text. both outcomes'll be equally interesting so i'm excited either way!

@pochapal glad you enjoyed it!!! i love these disasters and i'm so excited to finally get to tell their story

@pochapal “help we pushed someone else to the front while i process only they also cant deal with it and now the whole system is crying and has become a flaming dissociating clowncar full of ptsd that crashed into the wall of talking to one single human being”
