/r/nosleep thoughts
there's this one story that I remember every once in a while. it starts with the author going to a book club or something and it has some vague foreshadowing and build-up like every other story on there
but suddenly a creature bursts into the room. he links a few "photos he took" that are basically blurred pictures of a goblin shark.

at this point the narrative completely breaks down, and it's revealed that the author is writing this at the behest of the creature from its weird pocket dimension where it has been subjecting the group to unearthly suffering, extremely reminiscent of I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream.
there's no plot, no explanation, no resolution. I can't really say if it's bad or just strange. but it was just confusing and disturbing enough that it stuck with me
horror, personal
there's a specific niche in horror of the absurd. where there's a 50/50 shot of it being so bizarre that it's funny and ruins the tension entirely, or it lands and makes you scared/uncomfortable.
I only had nightmares until I was ~10. I distinctly recall a few that shook me in this way, but people laughed me off and left me feeling frustrated and alone. I think this horror hits me so strongly because it feels like childhood nightmares, and I'd venture to say that's the intent.

bumping my own thread because I want people to give me more examples
