yo if youre on a big instance like mstdn.social or mas.to or mastodon.online or chittr.xyz where you don't personally know the admins, it may be safer for you and the people you follow if you move accounts to an instance where you DO know the admin. because admins happen to be able to access all posts on all accounts within or federated to their instance, private, DM, or not.
@rubiline i guess it goes to show tho doesnt it like - there is no real privacy online. makes you feel kinda uncomfortable everywhere
@rubiline admittedly I do know the admins of chitter and I dont think its _that_ big so I'm not overly concerned on that front - id definitely say though like the biiiigg ones id be pretty concerned
it's easier if its a pleroma instance (they LITERALLY have access in the web interface) but i could honest to god pop open my mastodon server's local DB and just read private posts from other instances if i was so inclined. i won't because i'm not, like, evil. but other admins can, and there's no guarantee they're keeping it safe. so uh stay safe out there ok
