it's so rare that you see a movie (or anything come out of one of the big Content Factories) any more that someone actually cared about, and when you do, it seems like it gets shitcanned and swept under the rug immediately for a tax writeoff. I'd assume all the people who wanna make weird little sci-fi movies are doing it for youtube, but, like, if there's a guy making a star trek in his garage, i haven't seen it.

@sarahzedig when trump won in 2008, a dipshit coworker who sucks (and honestly probably voted for the guy and didn't wanna admit it) was like "well, at least we'll get great art" and I wanted to throttle him.
if you really wanted "great art" you wouldn't vote for guys who want to make it fuckin' impossible to actually make anything! your marvel movie watching ass wouldn't know great art if it logged on to sinkdog.com right now
@sarahzedig good shit as always. there's definitely an inflection point where, like, i stopped caring about new movies that were coming out? i think fury road was the last time i saw a film in theaters, and the particular crew who made it pretty a pretty clear imprint on it. and hey, there's even a pretty clear message! "there is no utopia, make it where you live."
incidentally i don't think that movie would have been made any better by having to censor any of the violence or nudity in it!
@sarahzedig but yeah your Furies Road stand out from the field just like you said. so much else anymore is just that white bread product of corporate brand identity churned out by a revolving door group of interchangeable "creative" crew who never actually get a chance to put their voice in any of it. all that's left is the Brand and if we started censoring shit again, no one would MAKE those vaunted clever workarounds because profit margins demand you perfectly color within the lines.
