losing my goddamn mind that i woke up today in a world where somehow by some wild goddamn twist of fate's dagger, the edgy escapist-funded early-2000s smash bros parody series There Will Be Relevant is relevant again. i waited with baited breath for every single episode of this god damned show and now zoomers are gonna discourse about how many times the r-slur gets dropped

just scrubbing through the video and hooooooooo boy this series has not aged well at all. it's early 2000s male nerd psychosis crystallized at the barest dawn of its cultural dominance. it's a showcase of bad tropes and mean caricatures that read today like a fever dream premonition of zack snyder's justice league and the rise of the marvel movie.
so much early 2000s nerd media is like this, desperately clawing for recognition just a few years before its ilk would take over the fucking world

i will say just by virtue of everything being physical, there are times when this is somehow more dynamic even than actual marvel movies. like idk it's cool that people bruise and bleed when they get punched. grading on a curve here
dear god there's three hours of this fucking show. it's all one long detective story and you know i have to admire the commitment to spending time with every character. even the ones that are poorly written or offensive stereotypes

i will say, the low resolution helps the sets and costumes A LOT. if this were shot today even on 1080p cameras it'd look SO much more cheap. which is probably why you don't see this kind of thing so much anymore? i feel like this brand of high-effort parody was a lot more common in the early 2000s
someone should try to do something like this again, but either shoot on an early digital camera or shoot towards rendering at 480p
