Through Shadowed Eyes, a retelling of the Candy Epilogue from Roxy's perspective: https://archiveofourown.org/works/19972756
also two of the links in this story (to "my hammer as a hammer" and "a grueling slog through three repressed women's emotions") no longer work, which is an odd microcosm of the forces of internet entropy that homestuck proper has been subjected to
anyway i've got more jumbled thoughts on this but instead of trying to vocalize them i'll just point to a rose in your teeth https://archiveofourown.org/works/24783799
it's interesting revisiting this piece a year later. it might be the most philosophically dense "story" i've written, despite being written on a whim and in one sitting. and it's funny to see my past self working through his shit in real time, but sad because i feel like his concerns were validated

@Paravellex
GG: there are a dozen sub-plots set up that just... coulda been really dang powerful, but got completely brushed over because reasons
GG: i dont mind fill-in-the-blanks aspects of stories, the original homestuck (and the epilogues) did that all the time!! but also, um, taking every single pivotal story moment out of the visible chronology doesnt... tell a story, anymore, really
GG: particularly when those moments are serious points of character development and learning. its not that the rest is fluff or anything like that, but... iunno, it makes hs2 feel like its lacking a lot without any good reason (or clear reason at all)

idk, folks. it's 7 in the morning and i'm awake for some reason and haven'f slept very well
i wish hs2 was better. i wish the intersection of external harassment, internal mismanagement, and global catastrophe hadn't arisen to undermine it so thoroughly. this story should have been *great,* it had all the ingredients needed to be something genuinely wonderful, but instead it was... this.

yiffy herself is barely even a character. she's a plot device designed to upset people, at least as presented so far
and let me be clear, upsetting people is far from a bad thing. the epilogues are a masterwork and they're among the most viscerally sickening things i've ever read. but there has to be a *reason* behind deliberately upsetting people beyond the act itself, otherwise it's just an exercise in unadulterated cynicism and nihilism
and nihilism, as always, is boring as shit

so was homestuck^2 actually trying to say anything with the yiffy reveal or nah
because it's one of those twists which depends entirely on the follow-through, and since the story after that point seemed actively averse to providing narrative or emotional payoff for *any* of its subplots, it sure seems like a vindication of the reddit complaints that the story was ruining the characters for shock value
