im personally trying to find out where i fall politically. the political compass seems pretty BS but i just want to know what type of communist i am and what type of reading i should be doing. i want to be able to explain to people my ideology without there being a bunch of holes in my information.
@harley I mostly find the extensive factionalization of communists in the 20th century to reflect circumstances that are not highly relevant to a revolutionary effort today, and as such have made a disciplined effort to read valuable works from as many different tendencies as I can. I’m probably closest to a bordigist left communist but don’t tell valerie or she’ll be smug about it
@harley a key thing i have seen said here fairly often is that naming a tendency is at best a useful tool to summarize things but in general serves to split the community in counterproductive ways.
Aligning yourself exclusively with anarchocommunism or with marxism-leninism or with democratic socialists kneecaps your ability to engage with people whose beliefs do not match the beliefes of those groups, and serves to make you think your thoughts need to be rigidly in line with those groups.
