tools i used fwiw:

ww.advancedrenamer.com/

utterly essential to bulk rename files, regex (with training wheels) makes it soooo easy,

mp3tag.de/en/

handles more than mp3's, can do *so much* with tagging (supports extended tags) + can embed covers etc, i went through ~7000 tracks in a day
FUN FACT! plex will not read embedded webp files, use png! (it also doesn't like large album art, stick under 3000x3000)

the "upside" of being nearly unable to do anything (cant talk, exhausted, sore, sore, sore) has been organising everything.

every single album is tagged (artist, album, genre, etc) and has artwork embedded, plex was annoying because it wants to ignore metadata but finally got that sorted as well (trying symfonium instead of plexamp on my phone, despite my love of foobar2000, it doesnt work w plex)
all my books are correctly tagged i n calibre and all my comics/manga are in komga

been so sick for a week, starting to feel better, grappling with being alive, i gotta get another album out, SEVERAL albums out

im taking this music thing too seriously, just make shit and kick it out the door

@dgold i'd love to read it if/when you finish, alt history is hard to do well but there are definitely a few ive liked

i do wonder, had the 1916 rising gone ahead with only nationalist forces, had the organised labour movement and ICA struck later on their own after the October revolution, what then?

over half the politicians that "commemorate" the easter rising would have sided with the british occupiers over Connolly

peacing out
soul yeet
reincarnate as worm
ascension

@SehrLesbisch (im irish and dont like that americans presume they are the only ones on the internet either)

@SehrLesbisch i misspoke (wrote?) "this is global but might be US centric"

its based on google tracking so its gonna naturally exclude russia and china (iirc yandex and baidu are dominant there)

I recognise *enough* german to know "ellie with an E @ very lesbian" isnt a yank
(did i get that right?)

@SehrLesbisch yeah, it could be people getting it and becoming disenchanted, it could well be new computers tied to college years. this is *global* as opposed to US centric so you could check google trends pared down by country and see if it lines up!

not to mention, as the designated tech daughter, i will forever be the person called upon for assistance w family phones, computers etc

thanks be to the geeks and furries for medicat, bulk crap uninstaller etc etc

so often i have to spend time to un-fuck a change some arsehole sitting 10k km away made that dragged its ass onto my desktop, its a serious waste of my efforts!

Show thread

yes there are *much much* worse things going on in the world, i know this might seem an odd tear to go on, but i really just want a bare min os to work in the background so i can make music or do w/e that i *intend* to do , i am a sentient being, i have fucking thumbs and access to a keyboard, i have volition and will, i do not need the intrusive help of clippy 2.0 taking the specific idiosyncratic way I write and "suggesting" i change it to be more formal, and in american business english

im just kinda sick of having to disable things in the registry, go into group policy and scheduled tasks to get rid of things i dont want, undo rounded corners and irritating windows animations , just struggling to essentially make a tool *do what I want*

win11 isn't quite back to the "fisher price" look but it is doing the rounded window corners thing macos has been doing

Show thread

i know these kind of things skew towards the more technically minded but if i was a ms dev i wouldnt love that there are a TON of articles out there (lol, i wonder how many written by "ai") about how to disable/uninstall co-pilot

have a graph, see how the turntables

Show thread

not to mention really bizzare things, the "programs and features" (from as far back as vista?) still loads in all installed applications a LOT faster than the new "Apps" thingy, and apps is just less informative overall as to publisher etc

programs and features even fits more than 2x the number of installed applications in a list onscreen than the "apps" ... app

sure, its "cleaner" but its functionality is just lesser than something designed over a decade ago

enough examples

Show thread

tell me im wrong but ms chasing "ai" seems really absurd when they still (iirc) havent moved everything even in the latest win 11 to UWP/metro-style

in win 10, if using powertoys launcher (a good replacement for launchy, a thing that kde has has forever) i still get two "settings" apps, one being the old style control panel

seems bad(?) just not finishing moving everything to the the up-to-date style

(ignore the weird colours on the control panel, the dark theme im using has some quirks)

i think about this chart, for a variety of reasons including people not knowing how to / being reluctant to do a full os update / not updating hardware / dedicated psychos like me having a pathological hatred of mercurial changes w OS's. will 12 be the sudden exception to the install/skip march of windows OS's

will 10 linger on in a zombie state

what happens when line doesnt go up?
