I wish “criticizing media you enjoy” coming from twitter and tumblr users meant “criticizing media you enjoy” and not “follow me into the demiurgic shell of fiction and debate me on its terms.” Is Stevened universe moral? @abraxas an example is a webcomic i was reading w/ a transfem villain who had a fantastic arc and motivation and got slammed for...being evil. like we may only exist as moral arbiters even when we don't exist at all. god it still pisses me off
I criticize media I enjoy all the time. Watched a movie last night and loved it, couldn’t stop thinking about how fundamentally bourgeois is was. This is the normal state of engaging in art. It’s dialectical, you should struggle with it, you should dispute it. What I will not do I is pretend that the hollow vessels for bearing meaning dancing on the screen somehow posses a moral character
