this shit that the doctor can do with his sonic now is so marvel, and it feels very intentionally so. this is doctor who playing in the idiom of marvel movies, and adapting a comic story to boot. i'm not sure how i feel about the hard light shields??? but i also kind of love how brazen it is as A New Thing. i think we might be seeing the doctor fully transition into becoming a wizard. the merlin prophecy is coming true right before our eyes

@sarahzedig I was really shocked by this. But then again Davies was the guy who gave the Doctor psychic paper in the first place, and giving the sonic more stuff to do lets you use it in more versatile fashion to move from one scene to the next. we also saw it meaningfully limited in the same old buzzword way (‘deadlocked controls’) so it’s just another tool for writers to use and a chance to flex the truly great looking effects
