the more i learn about american history the more perplexed i am that the u.s. fought *against* the nazis in wwii

@Paravellex the secret is they didn't, really. The American ruling class profited wildly off the war, not just in basic military industrial terms but through the vast investments American corporations had in German industry. Proletarian soldiers were sent to die for the sake of claiming as much of Europe + Germany as possible to prevent a soviet advance, reinstating nazi leadership to power in NATO mere years after taking over, not to mention operation paperclip

@abraxas @Paravellex arguably america fought against japan way more then it fought against the nazis, and even that was like. wellll

@Paravellex the only allied power that had any ideological reason to fight the nazis were the soviets. british (and eventually american) opposition was only ever in response to german expansion into (western) europe. no problem with fascism, only that they were bothering the neighbourhood, so to speak
